How to delete all your tweets (2026)
Short answer
X doesn't let you delete posts in bulk: its Help Center says you can only delete them one by one. To delete all your tweets at once you need a tool, either one that uses X's official API, which can delete 50 posts every 15 minutes (about 4,800 a day), or one that works in your browser. Either kind needs your X archive to reach posts older than your newest 3,200. If what you really want is to stay out of trouble, delete only the posts that break X's rules.
Option 1: Delete posts one by one
- Open your profile and find the post.
- Tap the ••• icon at the top of the post.
- Choose Delete post, then Delete to confirm.
To reach old posts faster, search X for from:yourhandle until:2020-01-01, with your own handle and date. That lists only your posts from before that day.
Option 2: Start fresh and keep your username
Create a second account with a temporary username, then swap usernames between the two. Your handle moves to the new, empty account. The old account keeps its posts and followers under the temporary name, and you can deactivate it afterwards.
Option 3: Deactivate your account
Deactivation lasts 30 days. If you don't log in during that time, X deletes the account and everything on it. Go to Settings and privacy › Your account › Deactivate your account. This removes your followers and your username too, so it only makes sense if you are leaving.
Option 4: Use a bulk deletion tool
Bulk tools come in two kinds, and the kind decides how fast and how far back they go.
| API tools | Browser and device tools | |
|---|---|---|
| How they delete | Send delete requests through X's official API | Work through x.com in a browser, or from an app on your device |
| Speed | 50 deletions per account every 15 minutes, about 4,800 a day | Set by the tool, not the API limit |
| X's fee | X charges the tool $0.005 to $0.010 per request | None |
| Posts older than 3,200 | Only with your X archive | Only with your X archive |
| Examples | PrunePosts, DeleteOldPosts | Redact, Cyd, TweetXer |

Either way:
- The newest 3,200 posts. X's API only lists your newest 3,200 posts, and scrolling your profile stops showing everything too. To reach older ones, a tool reads your X archive. Why the limit exists.
- No undo. X can't restore deleted posts. Download your archive first.
- Copies stay. X says it can't remove posts that other sites cached or that other people copied into their own posts.
- Automation risk. TweetXer's own instructions warn that automating deletion may get an account banned.
Before you delete everything
Ask what you are trying to fix. If it is privacy or a fresh start, deleting everything works. If it is the risk of being reported or suspended, the posts that matter are the few that break a rule: X says it suspends accounts for repeated violations of its policies. Deleting ten years of ordinary posts to get rid of a dozen bad ones throws away your history.
Questions
Is there a way to delete all tweets at once on X?
Not in X itself. X's Help Center says posts can only be deleted manually, one by one. Deleting in bulk takes a tool, or deactivating the whole account.
Can I delete all my tweets for free?
Yes, with some effort. Deleting one by one in X is free, Cyd's free desktop app can delete all your tweets, and TweetXer is a free script. Tools that use X's official API usually charge, because X charges them for every delete request.
How long does it take to delete all my tweets?
Through X's official API, at least a day for every 4,800 posts: X allows 50 deletions per account every 15 minutes. 10,000 posts take about two days.
Can I delete all tweets before a certain date?
Yes. In X, search from:yourhandle until:2020-01-01 (with your handle and date) and delete the results one by one. A bulk tool that reads your archive can delete everything before a date in one run.
Does deactivating delete my tweets?
Yes, after 30 days. Deactivation lasts 30 days, and if you don't log in during that time, X deletes the account and everything on it.
